Clean a Corner

This strategy works well to break a daunting messy room down into manageable tasks.

How to:

Decide on divisions for the room. Split the room up into corners and/or  areas depending on the size of the room and the amount of work to do. The bigger the mess, the smaller the divisions should be. Ideally, the room should be divided so that each section can be cleaned in roughly 20 minutes.

Tips:

  • Cleaning a corner can easily be combined with a cleaning game to make it more fun. The following list of games is a great place to start.
  1. Mother May I Clean?
  2. Simon Says, “Clean!”
  3. Bored with Cleaning Board Game
  4. Cleaning Read Aloud
  5. The Rhythm of Cleaning

Variations:

  • Mystery Corner: After dividing a room up into sections, it may be difficult to agree on which person gets to clean which corner or to decide on which section to start with. Here’s the solution: assign numbers to each section of the room, then write each of the numbers on a piece of paper, fold the pieces of paper and place them in a container (hat, cup, jar, etc). Then have each person draw a number from the container – this is the area of the room that they should clean.
