Like so many games, a great many of these cleaning games require players to pick who goes first. “Youngest goes first” is effective but let’s face it – it gets boring after a while. Use these strategies to make it easier to pick the first player or invent your own strategies!

- The person who cleaned their room most recently goes first
- The person with the messiest room goes first
- The tallest player goes first
- The shortest player goes first
- Assign a number to every letter of the alphabet (A = 1, B =2, C = 3, and so on). Add up the numbers that correspond to the letters of each player’s name. The player whose name gets the highest score goes first.
- The person with the most recent birthday goes first
- Write all players’ names on pieces of paper and draw a name from a hat
- Rock, paper, scissors
- Rock, paper, scissors, lizard, Spock
- Roll a set of dice – the highest roll goes first
- Roll a set of dice – the lowest roll goes first
- Take turns rolling a set of dice – the first person to roll doubles goes first
- Have each player draw a random card from a deck of cards. The highest card goes first. In the event of a tie, players draw again.
- The player who finished reading a book most recently goes first
- The player who cleaned most recently goes first
- The player that can hula hoop the longest goes first
- The player with the longest hair goes first
- The player with the shortest hair goes first
- The player that went last most recently goes first
- The youngest player goes first
- The oldest player goes first
- The player who’s birthday is closest goes first
