Snow White and the Messy Dwarves

Number of Players: 1+

How to:

Players pretend to be Princess Snow White (boys can use the name: Prince Ice Grey). The room(s) that need to be cleaned are the room(s) of the dwarves’ cottage.

Tips:

  • As they are picking up the room, players can have fun by deciding what the item is that they are picking up and which dwarf would have left it out.  For example, a set of blocks may be the gems that the dwarves collected in the mine that day. A book on history could belong to Doc. A blanket might belong to Sleepy or might be a large handkerchief belonging to Sneezy.

The Story:

Once upon a time,

there was a beautiful young princess named Snow White. The princess lived in a lovely castle with her kind father, the king. They were very happy together but the king missed his wife, who had passed away some time ago, and wished that his daughter could know the love of a mother.

When a beautiful woman, who seemed kind and smart, came to visit the castle, the king asked her to marry him. Unfortunately, shortly after marrying the new queen, the king died unexpectedly. After the king’s death, the true evil nature of Snow White’s new mother became apparent. The evil queen was jealous of Snow White’s beauty and ordered the huntsman to take Snow White out into the woods and kill her. The huntsman could not bring himself to obey the queen’s wicked command. Instead, he told Snow White to run far into the forest and never return or the queen would surely have her beheaded if she found out that Snow White was still alive.

Snow White ran far into the woods. For days she traveled farther away from her home and deeper into the mysterious woods until she finally came upon a small cottage in a little clearing. She was so tired that she forgot her manners and let herself into the cottage. Inside, she found what would have been a charming little cottage if it hadn’t been so messy. There were dirty pots and dishes strewn everywhere, clothes hanging from chairs and shelves, dust bunnies so big they looked like dust buffalo and windows so dirty that she couldn’t see through them.

Snow White discovered that all of the clothing, and in fact everything in the house, seemed to be made for children. She could find no evidence that any adults lived in the cottage. Being the caring person that she was, she was moved to help these poor children and set to work cleaning the untidy cottage. She worked very hard and when the last spoon had been washed, the last sock hung out to dry and the last dust bunny swept outside, she climbed the stairs and fell asleep on the little beds.

Now, this cottage did not belong to children at all but in fact belonged to seven dwarves who were very much surprised to find their home uncharacteristically tidy and a pot of delicious smelling soup bubbling in the fireplace. When they discovered the beautiful princess and heard her sad story, they decided that the princess would stay with them, under their protection and would hear of no other plans, especially after tasting the tasty soup that she prepared for dinner.

The end… or is it?
